Background Check for Officials

New Information for OAWA Registered Officials:

For the 2019 OAWA membership year, all officials 18 and older are required to complete a Police Background Check. Like OAWA Coaches, Officials will be required to provide a new background check every two years.

Officials can choose to complete their background check on line at the following site:

This service costs $25.00 (payable by credit card). You complete and pay for the application for a background check on line and in most cases the check is complete and returned within a few days. Sterling provides the check direct to the OAWA so you don’t have to do anything. You also receive the background check and can forward it to any other group you may volunteer with. Sterling communicates with you by e-mail.

The OAWA will reimburse OAWOA the cost for these background checks. 50% of the cost up to a maximum of $2,500.00 to OAWOA. Talk to your Area Chairman to determine how you will be reimbursed.

Alternately, you can elect to have your background check done through your local police force. To receive this, you will need a letter from OAWA verifying for the police that you need the background check done. A copy of this letter is available at the OAWA web site:

Please note that some police forces charge for this service and some do not. Check with your local police. Obtaining the check through the police can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks. Again, check with your local police.
