March 16 update - COVID-19 - Clubs advised to discontinue training

As a follow up to past updates, the OAWA is recommending that all OAWA clubs discontinue training/practices for the foreseeable future.

We recommend following the advice of government and medical experts with respect to use of schools and in respect to group gatherings.  We anticipate this advice will be updated in future and will make all effort to communicate to our clubs at that time.

Today, Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health is recommending the immediate suspension of all large events and public gatherings of over 250 people due to COVID-19”

National Championships

Wrestling Canada Lutte has postponed both upcoming National Championships.

WCL Memorandum (March 13, 2020):

WCL has been regularly monitoring the COVID-19 situation around the country. Further to yesterday’s communication and based on updated information we have 

reassessed the situation and will be postponing the upcoming 2020 Junior / Senior and U17 / U19 Canadian Championships. Please refer to the information just posted.

Ontario Youth Festival            April 25, 2020          Orillia, ON                 CANCELLED

As a result of the Chief Medical Officer of Health’s recommendation above, the City of Orillia have informed OAWA that the permit for the Youth Festival next month has been cancelled.

OAWA is cancelling this event effective immediately.


The Ontario Amateur Wrestling Association regrets the loss of these opportunities for our members, but will continue to follow the guidance of Government and Medical experts regarding events.

We will continue to update you with regards to these events, including if they will possibly be re-scheduled in the future.
