Sarnia Bluewater Wrestling Club 50th Anniversary
Put May 9th on your calendar to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Sarnia Bluewater Wrestling Club!
The club was established in 1976 to help promote amateur wrestling in the area and since then, has grown include a youth division for elementary aged athletes, a senior club for post secondary athletes and a new partnership with Lambton College with the newly formed Lambton College Wrestling Club for college students.
The celebrations kick off on Saturday May 2nd, with the hosting of the Ontario Senior Open and Youth Provincials at Lambton College and run until May 9th at the Four Points Hotel with the gala event. We are planning on showcasing the development of wrestling in the area high schools with the unveiling of the on-line Legacy Program, which documents every year of official high school wrestling in Lambton County starting in 1969-70 with the first city wide championships. Prior to this, highschool wrestling existed as dual meets, matches and intersquad competitions, beginning in 1931 at Sarnia Collegiate. The Legacy Program has thousands of pictures of local athletes and yearbooks from all area institutions and will be a project that will always be growing as people will be able to upload their own photos once the site is live.
At the gala, we will be honoring over 50 of the top athletes, coaches and builders with special awards as selected by our awards committee. These people have truly made an impact on our club and wrestling within our region, provincially, nationally and internationally.
Ticket for the event are $75 each and includes food, a live DJ – with dancing, a swag bag
of club branded gear. Tickets can be purchased by using the QR code on the poster or by
