Updates:
Notice to OAWA Member Clubs
On Thursday February 17, 2022, the Province of Ontario changed COVID-19 Requirements.
This page also outlines details on changes that will take effect March 1, 2022.
Please make yourself familiar with these guidelines.
The OAWA continues to advise all clubs and participants to ensure they are complying with current Government Guidelines and their local Public Health advice.
When the newest set of guidelines take effect March 1st, the OAWA will follow the Ontario Government regulations as we have all along.
While we continue to feel that Vaccination is the best form of control over the virus and encourage our members to consider vaccination, showing proof of vaccination will no longer be required at OAWA events. All other Government/Public Health guidelines, including mask wearing, will be followed.
Please note that in cases where the hosting facility still requires persons entering to show proof of vaccination, the OAWA will of course follow this requirement.
OAWA Clubs and members are still asked to:
- Check your local public health guidelines for capacity limitations if they are in place.
- Clubs should carry out active pre-screening and collecting tracing information prior to allowing entry to the facility. There is a screening checklist available on the OAWA web site that can be used for this. We suggest clubs maintain these records for a minimum of 4 weeks.
- Facility limit also required to ensure 2 Metre social distancing can be done by those in the facility - exemption for athletes actively training/competing, see below.
- Clubs operating must have a Safety Plan. We advise following the OAWA guidelines for Opening Plans as available on the OAWA web site in the ‘Pin COVID-19’ Section.
- Clubs should have their Safety Plan in place, but are not required to submit the plans to OAWA for approval.
- Keep good records – your safety plan, tracing information including names and contact information for everyone accessing your training sessions.
- Facilities should continue to carry out full sanitization – recommended between training sessions.
- All those entering must wear masks indoors at all times at OAWA events. This includes Coaches and other volunteers, Spectators, and athletes other than as noted below.
- Athletes may remove masks while actively training.
- Officials and Athletes may remove masks during wrestling matches, but are to wear a mask at all other times.
- Participants should social distance as much as possible.
- Make yourself aware of local public health guidance in your area. Adhere to and respect all other Government requirements.
- Respect your fellow members by doing so.
Pin COVID-19
When the pandemic began, the OAWA established a Working Group to develop Guidelines for Ontario Wrestling Clubs as they start back to training.
The OAWA wants to recognize the work of the Working Group during the pandemic. During this time, they reviewed COVID related information regularly to provide updates to our members. They also reviewed club applications for Return to Training. Note that as of July 16, 2021 at 12:01 am this process is no longer required.
The Working Group feels that many of the resources we set up for our clubs on this page are still valuable information for clubs, so we are keeping these here for the time being while we return to Wrestling.

OAWA wishes all our clubs well as they return to Wrestling!
Final Reminder: Clubs are advised to check with their local public health as they begin to open up to make sure these guidelines are accurate in their area.
Thank you.
